An Invocation of Sekhmet

(translated into English by Kerry Wisner, 1999-2000, from the French text “Dendera—I Traduction” by S. Cauville)

The Powerful, powerful in Her existence, She that impurity fears.

The One who’s face is beautiful, remarkable of image, Who thrusts back sadness.

The Solar Feminine Disk, radiant, rejuvenating, illuminating the country.

The Mistress of the Sky, appearing in Her Sanctuary.

Sekhmet, powerful against the enemies, inspiring terror in the rebels.

The Mistress of Iunet, entering into Her Chapel, whirling and dancing in Her Temple.

Sekhmet

Written as an offering by Phoenix R.A.

Final Draft 2/23/2011

Sekhmet, Mother Wild

Sekhmet, Feral, Strong

Goddess of the Sword and Flame

Destroyer of the Wrong

Beloved Goddess, Distant and Close

Dancing near and then far

Mysterious, Magical, Beautiful One

Burning the Morning Star

Sekhmet, Bold and True

Sekhmet, Red with Lust

Of Carnelian Heart, the Eye of Re

Devouring the Unjust

Within your Powerful, Merciless gaze

Feel terror of tooth and claw.

Fearful of Change, Fearful of Strength

You render and crush our flaw

Sekhmet, Powerful Heart

Sekhmet, who rouses Elation

Wingéd Healer, draw us from stone slumber

Enlighten, Empower the Nations

And to the Dark Goddess—the Goddess who calls us out, names our faults, and challenges us to become better, more whole. This one’s for you.

Black Mother

In the deep abyss of soul

Amongst rot you wait

Calling up the hole

Hearing the call, You we fight

Shriveling in fear

Recoiling from sight

Still You echo in and out

Your cold, hollow call

Etching pain and doubt

Our fear reflects high o’er Earth

Your Holy Black Orb

Snuffing stolen mirth

Heartless fingers plucking pain

Against you we fight

Not knowing the gain

Feel defeat, desperation

Fighting you is pointless

We the causation

See-there is nowhere to hide

The poison’s self made

Turn to face the tide

Goddess, Terrible and Dark

In silence You sit

As we seek your spark
